FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is unlacquered brass?
Unlacquered brass is solid brass with no protective clear coat. Most commercial brass fixtures are sprayed with a lacquer to keep the surface shiny and unchanging — but that lacquer eventually yellows, chips, or peels, and once it does, the brass underneath ages unevenly. Unlacquered brass skips that coating entirely, so the metal itself is what you see and touch, from day one.
Why does it patina or tarnish? Is that a defect?
No — it's the expected, intended behavior of the material. Bare brass and copper react naturally with air, moisture, and oils from your hands. Over weeks and months you'll see the high-touch areas (handles, spouts) polish up to a warm gold shine from daily use, while less-touched areas may deepen in tone or develop darker, antique-looking patches. This is the same aging process seen on antique doorknobs, ship fittings, and old kitchenware. It is not rust, it is not corrosion damage, and it does not affect the function of the fixture.
How do I care for it, and can I slow down or reverse the patina?
For everyday care: wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, bleach, and harsh chemical cleaners — they can create blotchy, uneven patina rather than a smooth one. If you want to keep a brighter, more polished look for longer, occasional buffing with a brass polish and a coat of paste wax will slow the aging process (though it won't stop it completely on an unlacquered finish). If your fixture has already developed patina and you'd like to reset it to a brighter finish, a brass polish (such as Bar Keepers Friend or a dedicated brass cleaner) with a soft cloth and some elbow grease will strip the surface patina. Full care instructions are on our Care & Patina Guide.
Where do your products ship from, and how long does delivery take?
Every piece is handcrafted in Morocco and ships internationally from our workshop to your address in the United States. Standard delivery is 10–20 business days. Tracking is provided as soon as your order leaves our facility. Because these are handmade goods, not warehouse-stocked mass production, we ask for your patience — but we think the wait is worth it. Full details are on our Shipping & Delivery page.
What is your return policy?
We accept returns within 30 days of delivery on unused, uninstalled items in their original packaging. Custom or made-to-order finishes are final sale. See our full Returns & Warranty page for details on who covers return shipping.
Is installation difficult?
Most of our faucets and accessories follow standard US plumbing thread sizes and can be installed by a confident DIYer with basic plumbing tools. Shower systems, tub fillers, and anything requiring new rough-in valves or wall penetration should be installed by a licensed plumber. Every listing notes what's included (valve, trim, or both) so you know what you're working with before you buy. See our Installation Guide for more detail.
Do the finishes match across different products?
Because each piece is hand-finished and made from a natural material, slight variation in tone between individual pieces — and between product photos and what arrives at your door — is normal and expected. If you're ordering multiple pieces for one space (e.g. a faucet and matching accessories), order them together when possible for the closest finish match.
